What this trial is testing
Condition(s) listed: Ulcerative Colitis (Disorder). This is an observational study: researchers collect information (for example questionnaires, samples, or scans) but the study does not assign a treatment.
Who can join
- Ages 16 and older
- Any sex
Some of the main requirements, copied from the record:
- Age 18 years or older.
- Established diagnosis of ulcerative colitis based on accepted clinical, endoscopic, histological, and/or imaging criteria documented in routine clinical care.
- Received clinical care at one of the participating centers during the prespecified study period.
- Availability of sufficient clinical information to establish the participant's ulcerative colitis diagnosis and longitudinal observation period.
- Eligible for inclusion under the ethics-approved retrospective and/or prospective cohort procedures.
There are also 5 reasons someone might not be able to join (exclusion criteria). Only the trial team can confirm whether you qualify.
What's involved

Groups in this study
- Ulcerative Colitis Longitudinal Cohort
Main thing being measured
- Time Under Objective Uncontrolled Disease (Up to 36 months from the relevant index date)
In the researchers’ words
This multicenter longitudinal observational cohort study aims to characterize objective disease-control trajectories, treatment adaptation, and long-term clinical outcomes among adults with ulcerative colitis receiving routine clinical care. Longitudinal clinical information, laboratory biomarkers, endoscopic assessments, intestinal ultrasound when available, medication exposure, corticosteroid use, hospitalization,…
Words you might see
- Pruritus: itching; a common and often hard-to-treat symptom in cholestatic liver disease.
- Endoscopy: a camera exam inside the digestive tract.
- Biopsy / histology: a small tissue sample examined under a microscope.

Questions to ask your doctor and the trial team
- Am I likely to qualify, given my health history?
- What would I have to do, and how often would I need to visit?
- Could I get a placebo? What happens to my current treatment?
- What are the possible risks and benefits?
- Are travel or other costs covered?
- What happens after the trial ends?

Established diagnosis of ulcerative colitis based on accepted clinical, endoscopic, histological, and/or imaging criteria documented in routine clinical care. Received clinical care at one of the participating centers during the prespecified study period. Availability of sufficient clinical information to establish the participant's ulcerative colitis diagnosis and longitudinal observation period. Eligible for inclusion under the ethics-approved retrospective and/or prospective cohort procedures. Exclusion Criteria: * Diagnosis subsequently revised to Crohn's disease, isolated intestinal Behçet's disease, infectious colitis, ischemic colitis, or another non-ulcerative-colitis condition that better explains the participant's disease. Insufficient information to establish a reliable longitudinal observation period. Duplicate or irreconcilable patient identity records.
